Overview

Summary

Collaborate with department leadership to assess, plan, develop, implement, evaluate and revise educational training programs for Donation & Family Advocates and Donation Liaisons, as well as all roles requiring initial or ongoing training around organ authorization; serve as key resource for authorization training of preceptors and onboarding of new hires; responsible for designing and implementation of training and continuing education for department staff, including, but not limited to, orientation and in-services; may be asked to contribute through workgroups/committees/meetings; may be asked to take a limited number of call days to provide guidance and coaching to in-field staff and/or orientees with management of daily referrals and donation conversations.

 

Starting compensation range for this position: $83,000 - $93,500 annually

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

The following essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive education plans to meet orientation and ongoing competency needs, as well as professional development needs of the department staff
  • Ensure specific regulatory educational needs are met
  • Create training materials using the most appropriate content modalities
  • Maintain documentation of all training activities
  • Work in collaboration with department leadership to support individual continuing education and professional development opportunities
  • Plan, develop, and evaluate the preceptor program to enhance the orientation process and promote staff retention
    • Provide guidance to the preceptors through educational programs and ongoing coaching and mentoring
    • Schedule and conduct post-activity debriefing sessions with trainee, preceptor, and supervisor/manager; validate strengths/weaknesses and achievement/non-achievement of training objectives for the trainees
    • Document training evaluations and determine when a trainee can be signed-off for independent practice in collaboration with department leadership; assist with orientee signoffs when able
  • Identify factors that affect staff ability to fulfill their job responsibilities; collaborate with management to develop training plans to effect appropriate change in learning opportunities
  • Enhance existing training for Donation & Family Advocates and Donation Liaisons through the use of instructional design and adult learning methodologies
  • Coordinate educational sessions utilizing outside sources, e.g., hospital partners, Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), simulation centers and other related fields, etc.
  • Oversee the logistics of simulations for both in-house and outside simulation centers including but not limited to scenario writing, scheduling, facilitating, and debriefing of simulations for staff
  • Take an active role in the planning and implementation of seminars/in-services/webinars in affiliation with other Gift of Hope departments
  • Use Learning Management System (LMS) to generate reports, create assignments, and change user information for assigned staff
  • Take a limited amount of call days to provide guidance and coaching to in-field staff and/or orientees on daily referrals and approaches
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Training Required

The following identifies the minimum education and training required to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) experience or education/training and development background preferred

 

Experience and Skills Required

The following indicates the minimum skills and experience required to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • A minimum of 2 years as a Donation & Family Advocate or Donation Liaison or 2 years working at an OPO in an authorization role or in an equivalent healthcare education setting
  • Previous training/presentation/education experience or coursework preferred
  • Ability to create and deliver training content through multiple training modalities
  • Ability to design training programs, pre- and post-tests, and course evaluations
  • Ability to adapt training approach to suit a variety of learners
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once
  • Excellent inter-personal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to operate audiovisual equipment, such as LCD projectors, video camera, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in Excel, Word, PowerPoint  with the ability to become proficient in online learning management system such as Cornerstone

  • Ability to respond to dispatches in a timely manner and arrive to work sites as assigned

  • Limited after-hours work when supporting staff in the field, as necessary
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel to both the Itasca and Springfield offices, hospitals and other sites within Gift of Hope’s donation service area to perform job functions
  • Carry a personal cell phone to be accessible outside regular business hours
